PhD Day - Feminist AI and Collective Wellbeing

Nov 19th 2025
10:00 - 17:00

Location: NEXT Delft
8 Molengraaffsingel, 2629 JD Delft

Following the symposium on November 18th, we invite PhD candidates to join us for a dedicated day of peer exchange, collaborative feedback, and dialogue. The PhD Day offers PhD candidates working on topics such as AI, feminism, care, collectivity, sustainability, digital labor, and related themes an opportunity to continue explore the theme of the symposium in relation to their own research themes and practices in an interdisciplinary environment.

The PhD day program will include peer review sessions that allow participants to share work in progress and to receive feedback from their peers; interactive activities that addresses the challenges of working as a PhD researcher; as well as community building and networking opportunities.

We particularly welcome interdisciplinary perspectives and encourage applications from researchers at all stages of their doctoral journey. Eligibility is flexible, however, if you have any questions or are unsure about your eligibility please reach out to us at alucchini@tudelf.nl

How to Participate

1. Option 1: Present Your Work
Submit an abstract (150-300 words) describing your research topic and main questions, the specific work you'd like to present (dissertation chapter, article draft, or research findings) , and your current stage in the doctoral program.

Timeline:

  • Abstract submission deadline: October 22, 2025

  • Panel assignments confirmed: October 27, 2025

  • Full paper/chapter submission: November 3, 2025 (approximately 4,000-6,000 words)

2. Option 2: Attend the PhD Day Without Submitting Work
Not ready to present but interested in the community and discussions? You're welcome to join as a participant. Attending the PhD day is a valuable way to engage with research in feminist AI and related fields, build connections with interdisciplinary PhD researchers, and participate in activities and discussions.

Peer review sessions

If you would like feedback on your work, you can participate in a peer review session. PhD candidates are invited to submit abstracts for their research presentation. These may focus on a dissertation chapter, article draft, or research findings that you wish to discuss with colleagues. We will organize submissions into themed panels based on your research topic. Each participant will be assigned to provide peer feedback on one paper. Two weeks prior to the event, you'll submit your complete chapter or article for peer review and discussion during the PhD day. Those of you who are in the very early stages of your PhD, may also consider to hand in your PhD proposal, which will then be commented upon by your peers (recommended to PhDs who have just started). On the PhD day, each participant delivers a 5-10 minute presentation on your submitted paper.

Who Should Apply

This day is open to PhD candidates from any discipline whose research intersects with the symposium themes, including but not limited to:

  • Feminist and decolonial approaches to AI and technology

  • Care, labor, and wellbeing in digital contexts

  • Environmental and ecological dimensions of AI

  • Community-based and participatory design

  • Critical data studies and algorithmic justice

  • Alternative technological futures and refusal

We particularly welcome interdisciplinary perspectives and encourage applications from researchers at all stages of their doctoral journey. Eligibility is flexible, however, if you have any questions or are unsure about your eligibility please reach out to us at alucchini@tudelf.nl.
